Wood stain color match

Pick a color, or paste a hex code from a photo, a paint chip or a piece you are trying to match. The five closest stains from every brand on this site appear below, ranked by Delta-E, the standard measure of perceptual color distance.

    How to read the results

A Delta-E under about 2.3 is roughly the smallest difference an eye can see; up to about 8 is a subtle difference; above that the colors look clearly different side by side. The match is against each stain's on-screen swatch, not the finish on your wood, and a stain looks different on pine, oak and maple, so treat the result as a shortlist and confirm on a test board of your own wood.
